Many of you will remember Daphne Carter, who spent more than twenty years photographing Ventnor and its people, and donated 47 albums of her photographs to the Library.
Daphne was an active member of Friends of Ventnor Library and also the Ventnor and District Local History Society, who displayed her photographs in exhibitions in the Heritage Museum. Friends of Ventnor Library have now been awarded a grant to catalogue and scan Daphne’s photographs to preserve them and make them more widely available. The attached document describes the project, called ‘Ventnor Remembered’, in more detail.
We will be launching ‘Ventnor Remembered’ at 6 pm on Saturday 22 September, at Ventnor Central (the church on Victoria Street which used to be used as the Youth Centre), and would be very pleased if you can join us.
Please come along if you can – there will be refreshments available, and we will have some of the albums there for you to look through.
